You and your ex ended things.
It’s unfortunate, but it happened.
You go to their Instagram account only to realize that they have unfollowed you.
What does it mean and how should you handle it?
Let’s jump into it.
My ex unfollowed me | Why did it happen and how to deal with it
Why would an ex unfollow me?
Once you’ve broken up, they have cut the cord.
Sometimes it’s best to just remove them.
The relationship is over therefore maybe they don’t think you two should be connected.
It’s understandable for them to do so.
It hurts and they don’t want to see you on their feed.
They could be in pain about the breakup.
They might not want to see anything related to you on their homepage.
I know the times when I went through a breakup I didn’t want to see anything related to my ex on my Instagram or Facebook.
It’d be hard to move on.
Some people can’t move on if their ex keeps popping up.
If things have ended, how can they if you constantly see them or see things related to them when you follow them.
There could also be posting of memes, quotes, or statuses related to your relationship that you might be posting.
I know this is something I did when I would go through a breakup where I’d be posting these sad quotes related to breaking up and to be honest, your ex might not want to see that.
They see you’ve moved on and they don’t want to see it on their timeline.
Maybe your ex has noticed that you have moved on where you’re talking about dating or they’re posting photos with you having fun in life without them.
When things end with someone who was once apart of your world, it can be difficult to come to terms with the fact that they can live life without you happily.
It can be difficult to see you smile or living your best life without them whether it’s real or not.
So they unfollow.
They could just be petty.
Some people unfollow and do it just to be petty with the hopes you’ll contact them.
They want to know that you’ve noticed.
They do it to hurt you on purpose.
They want you to acknowledge it.
I feel like it’s a very select few of exes who do it just to get a rise out of you, but it happens unfortunately.
What to do when your ex unfollows you
I’m going to keep this simple and short.
If an ex unfollows you, do not even acknowledge it.
You may want to reach out and ask why, but to be honest they’ll just give you a reason listed above which will not make you feel any better.
If they unfollowed you, it’s their choice and you can’t force someone to follow you.
I would just say to take this time to focus on yourself and what makes you happy.
Breakups are hard, but focusing on something that won’t actually change anything or may potentially hurt you just makes it all harder.
