Working from home can be an interesting transition if you’re used to working in an office. It can be quite a change for your overall life and you may not realize that you may need to adjust to somethings. Today I figured I would share with you guys some of my work from home tips. Check them out!
6 Tips for Working Remotely – Work from Home
Be in a room by yourself.
One mistake I made early on when I started working from home was being around other people in the same room. I would end up working in my living room and as soon as someone walked in the room they would start talking or trying to get my attention. You’ll be able to get more done if you’re alone by yourself. Try to have a designated spot where you can complete your work.
Prepare yourself for organization.
Being organized is extremely important. You want to make sure that you have a desk or some type of work station setup where you can get things done without clutter. If you don’t have any space for a desk in your home, use the dining room table or buy a tray table or two. I ended up using 2 tray tables for about a year for my work station until I found a place in my home where I could setup a desk.
Here are some I recommend:
Adjustable rolling laptop stand
You can also buy a foldable desk.
This desk is under $100.
Keep track of the time you actually spend working.
If you’re working for an actual company online, it is important to keep track of the time you’re working. Some companies may have a clock in area where you show where you are active and on the clock.
If you do not work for an actual company, then you don’t really have to keep track of the time you spend working unless you’re doing something where you get paid by the hour or you just want to keep track of the time you are putting into your job.
Take breaks and walk around.
Make sure to get up and take a breather to refresh your mind. Sometimes being stuck in the same spot can cause you to be stressed and even less effective. I like to reboot my mind by stretching, taking a 10 minute walk, or sometimes I’ll even take a 15-20 minute nap with my alarm turned on so I won’t oversleep.
Remove distractions like social media, Netflix, and anything else.
Make sure you aren’t doing work in front of a tv and try to stay off of your phone. The moment you get distracted, you might end up missing something or getting off track of what you’re getting paid to do.
Take care of yourself.
Above all, make sure that you are eating, showering, brushing your teeth, and taking care of yourself. When it comes to working online, a lot of times I’ll hear people say that they’ll end up going a couple of days in the same pajamas or that they haven’t really been eating as consistently. Take time out for yourself and try to stick to a morning routine where you take care of hygiene and eat. Give yourself a breakfast, lunch, and dinner moment of everyday. Also take sometime out for self care everyday.
