This past week I decided to find some new anime to watch. Netflix recommended Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day so I decided to take a chance on it and watch it.
Now I’m one of the those unfortunate people that usually will start watching an anime series only to stop watching it before I get to the actual ending. However, upon realizing that Anohana was only 11 episodes long, I decided to go ahead and check it out.
Before I even start, I just want you guys to know… if you enjoy emotional series, this is the anime for you.
Anohana Review – Netflix Anime
This review will be spoiler free for the most part. I won’t go into details about what happened because I want you guys to watch it. It’s worth the watch!
Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day was truly misleading for me initially. I honestly almost wanted to stop watching it about 7 minutes into the series because of some slight ecchi moments in the beginning. However, I realized eventually that this wasn’t that type of anime.
The show focuses on a group of friends who drifted apart after the death of one of their friends, Meiko aka Menma. The spirit of the girl returns for reasons you don’t realize in the beginning. The only person that can actually see her is the leader of the group, Jinta, who has become a loner and basically seems like he has given up on lots of things in life because of the death of his friend.
Thoughts on Anohana Characters
One of the things I love about Anohana is the character development. Without going into detail for those of you who are interested in seeing it, It is truly amazing seeing the revelations being made among the characters within this series. I also love how you can see the growth of the characters within the series because each of them has their own situations going on, but you see growth within them.

The Plot
There are so many layers to everything going on where I just sat there watching as my eyes teared up practically every episode. The concept of the spirit of a close friend you loss when you were younger and having them return 5 years later while making you reflect on your emotions is powerful. This story is so beautifully written. I absolutely fell in love with it.
So head on over to Netflix and check it out!
Do I have any favorite characters?
Menma is the main character that I actually liked. Her sweet and caring demeanor is what made me fall in love with this anime even more.

Will I cosplay a character from Anohana?
I honestly can see myself cosplaying Menma and Naruko. They both have easy looks that I could put together through a closet cosplay. I’ll cosplay them and create DIY tutorials if any of you guys are interested in them.
But that’s my Anohana review! I hope that you guys enjoyed it.
