romance movies

I absolutely love sitting down and watching romance movies. There is something about seeing two people fall in love with each other that really makes me feel all warm and gooey inside. Today I wanted to share with you guys some of my favorite romance movies to watch. Most of these movies I have watched multiple times except for maybe one. Most of them will make you feel emotional and potentially make you feel like crying so just a heads up if you’re a person that cries during emotional scenes. So let’s jump into the best love movies to watch this weekend right now!

12 Romance Movies to Watch This Weekend

A Walk to Remember

This movie is based on a book by Nicholas Sparks. I believe this was one of the first movies that launched the rest of his other books into movies too. In “A Walk to Remember” a reserved Bible school girl and a popular “bad boy” develop a friendship and eventually…. you guessed it.. fall in love. This is the first romance movie (that wasn’t animated like Disney) that I fell in love with as a teenager. It’s also one of the first movies I watched where I ugly cried when watching it. If you’ve never seen this movie before, you’ll definitely love it and want to add it to your own romance movies list! I also just want to point out that I loved seeing a young Mandy Moore in this movie. I absolutely loved her music when I was a child.

Shakespeare in Love

This romance movie focuses on Shakespeare himself as he developed his famous Romeo & Juliet while falling in love within his own life in the process. If you love Victorian settings and English accents, you’ll really enjoy this movie.

Carol

I watched this movie for the first time last year and it is one of the best romance movies I have ever seen in my life. This is probably the best acting I’ve ever see in a romance film. I felt all of the emotions and I found myself drifting between emotions that the characters in the movie were having.  I swear anything with Cate Blanchett or Rooney Mara is gold. I honestly rate this film a 10 out of 10. This movie is on Netflix and on Hulu!

The Wedding Planner

I had to throw this movie in there because Jennifer Lopez aka J. Lo was at one point the Queen of Romantic Films. This is probably my favorite J. Lo movie. I loved the entire story and concept of The Wedding Planner. Of course I could be a bit biased. I probably like this movie so much because at one point I wanted to become a wedding planner myself.

Me Before You

This movie stars my girl Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones… I mean it stars Emilia Clarke, who plays a light filled girl who doesn’t exactly know what she wants to do with her life until she ends up taking a last resort job as a caregiver. This story was so beautifully written and it is based on a book. I need to buy the book and start reading it one of these days. Watch this movie on Hulu.

The Notebook

Most people will say this is their favorite romance movie and I have to admit… The Notebook is up there as one of the best romance movies of all time. This movie was also based on a book by Nicholas Sparks. The story tracks the lives of a rich Southern girl named Allie and a poor laborer boy named Noah. This movie left me ugly crying as well and the chemistry of Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams was wonderful.

The Fountain

I’ve seen this movie once and it was pretty weird. I have to add it to the list though because of the romance within it. The movie follows 3 story lines… one of which focuses on a doctor who is slowly losing his wife, Izzi, to a brain tumor. I’ll be honest and say that even though I barely remember the other parts of this movie, I do recall how emotional I was when I watched this movie. There are a lot of layers to it and metaphors within these 3 story lines, but if you sit down and watch it… You can try to breakdown the meaning behind everything going on.

Ever After

If you are a fan of Cinderella’s story then you’ll enjoy this movie. This is basically about the real life Cinderella and how her story unfolded… without all of the magical aspects. This movie gives the viewer a realistic perspective of Cinderella, her life, and how she met the prince.

Your Name

This is one of my favorite anime films of all time. This movie is about a girl and a boy who end up consistently switching bodies. They begin communicating with each other through written messages & a lot of stuff ends up happening within the both of their lives. Eventually the viewer realizes why they started switching bodies and the purpose of this event. This movie was brilliant. It won Best Film at the 2018 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. IT’s definitely a must watch anime film and romance movie!

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

This is another one of my favorite anime films. A girl named Makoto finds herself with the power to time travel it causes a lot of different things to happen and her to make some realizations about time itself. This movie won 6 awards at the 2007 Tokyo Anime Awards including Animation of the Year.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

This is the movie I probably cried the most in when I watched it. When I tell you guys that you are going to feel so emotional when watching this movie, you will. This film focuses on the story of Benjamin Button who defied odds. Benjamin was born with a rare disease where he has an older body, but as he gets older his body ages backwards and gets younger instead of older. This movie is currently on Hulu so check it out.

The Age of Adaline

This movie stars Blake Lively as the woman who doesn’t age. It follows the struggles that she experiences because she doesn’t age due to an accident that happened to her decades ago. I could be biased because I’ve enjoyed Blake Lively ever since I first saw her in Gossip Girl, but this movie is definitely worth the watch as well. It can be hard being somewhat immortal.
